12 Things To Do Alone In Your 20s
Something I wish I would of started doing a long time ago was dating myself.
Getting to know who you are and being content in your own presence is so crucial in your ability to find happiness and peace in your life. It’s a truly liberating experience being unashamed of doing things on your own.
Here are 12 things to do on your own. These are really worth trying out at least once when you are just getting into dating yourself.
- Try a new coffee shop
Usually the nearest town will have it’s own coffee shop on the main street. Go try it out! Bring a book, laptop, or notepad, and just sit and lose track of time.
2. Travel somewhere
My job has allowed me to do this a lot recently while being safe. Going through an airport, catching a plane, and going to a brand new place on your own is an absolutely terrifying but freeing expereince.
3. Take yourself on a dinner date
Don’t just take yourself to a quick lunch or casual fast food joint, try a really nice restaurant that you’ve never been to. Trust me, it’s not as weird as it sounds. When in doubt, drink a glass of wine and feel your worries of what others are thinking melt away and enjoy the tiramisu.
4. Try a Friend Dating App
Dating ‘friends’ is so much fun. I have used Bumble BFF and it is the best one I have found so far. It makes you put yourself out there, meet new people, all while hopefully meeting some quality girlfriends along the way. I personally have never had a bad first friend date experience while doing this. I have heard some stories from other girls about awkward interactions, but so far, this has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
5. Go shopping
If you haven’t done this already, do it! Make an entire day of going to your favorite stores, trying things on, and indulging yourself.
6. Go see a movie
I have done this twice. Both times, I loved it. I was able to buy my favorite snacks, pick the perfect seat, watch all the previews without anyone talking to me, and enjoyed a movie I genuinely wanted to see.
7. Get lost on a long drive
Once I discovered Spotify, I was ruined for short car rides. My drive just never seemed long enough for my playlists. Pick a new street and just go. Roll the windows down, turn the music up, and get lost in your trip!
8. Sit at the top of a parking garage in a city
Trust me when I say this… it’s actually a pretty cool experience. It gives you a completely different view of a city that you are, or aren’t familiar with. You’ll see and hear everything from a quiet and remote space surrounded by things and people comepletely oblivious to you.
9. Wake up early, go to a local lookout point, and watch the sunrise
This was a hard one for me because well… mornings. But being up before most other people and watching the world light up in different colors is a pretty majestic thing to do alone.
10. Same as #9, but at sunset
Don’t forget to stargaze as soon as the sun completely sets!
11. Go to a spa and get away for the day
Save up, schedule it, and give yourself some much needed TLC. Hair, nails, massage, facial, do it all! Unplug and unwind from your life for a few hours and clear your mind, body, and soul of all the weight you’ve been carrying for too long.
12. Get lost in a book shop for a few hours
Spend a good amount of time roaming through isles, reading through some excerpts, and sit in a quiet and calm environment while getting lost in different stories.
Whether you try one, or all of these, trying something new by yourself opens up a new world of opportunities. You will realize that you don’t need someone else to do something with, you can go enjoy doing it all on your own. Who knows, you might actually fall in love with trying new things with just yourself!
******Make sure if you are going on your own, always be as safe as possible! Share your uber trips, locations, and always check in with someone.
